Police officers in California and Texas have been busy testing networked guns. YardArm, a California based company has invented a chip that tracks how a police officer’s gun is being used. YardArm created a chip that goes into a firearm’s handle. This invention stores information that could prove useful in investigations and court cases.
Once set up, the chip will be connected to the internet and will be actively collecting information that includes the gun’s location and information on whether the gun has been discharged or unholstered. YardArm is also aiming to innovate the chip to track the direction in which a gun is pointing. Information obtained from the smart gun will then be forwarded to a police dispatch system and is available on connected smartphones.
“You have a social demand for smart gun technology, but not necessarily a market demand,” says Jim Schaff, YardArm’s vice president of marketing. “As a consumer product, it’s going to be a long road.”

Although gun owners may not be very attracted to a smart gun, law enforcement shows strong interest. Smart gun is slowly gaining acceptance from the police force as they realize that information tracked can help clear them of accusations and possibly decrease litigation costs.

Rather than warning parents retroactively, MonBaby takes proactive steps to alert parents even if there is the slightest negative change in breathing patterns.
Technologies such as this one are extremely valuable to society because they are actually saving lives, rather than simply providing users with random data. Hospitals may end up utilizing MonBaby (or similar devices) to ensure active monitoring of newborns, decreasing the amount of accidents that can occur.

The Muse, a new wearable technology developed by InteraXon is a headband that uses 7 finely calibrated sensors to detect and measure the activity of your brain. All of your brain activity is then translated into real-time feedback on your tablet or smartphone via a Bluetooth connection. You are then provided with an audiovisual experience that assists you in calming down and managing your stress.
Who would have ever thought that a simple looking headband would have the ability to analyze your brainwaves and then reduce your stress in only three minutes?! The only unfortunate aspect of this wearable technology is its steep price tag, but surely the cost will come down just as all other technologies do.
This type of technology can be a bit scary, though. If a $300 piece of wearable technology is able to figure out how to affect your mood, soon enough there may be some worrisome marketing or privacy implications in our future. Companies could somehow integrate branding into a stress management program, or mental health professionals could possibly use this as a way to learn more about their patients.

Imagine customers who go to the travel agency can experience different travel destinations and decide which one they want to go by wearing the Oculus headset at the travel agency.
